When you meet a kitten as unique as this one, it is entirely fitting to call it “Nermal”, because “normal” is something that he is completely not.
It was in 2010 that Sarah Juracich met a rescue kitten unlike any other. According to The Dodo, it happened during a random visit to a pet adoption fair, and although Sarah wasn't looking for a cat, it seems that a cat was looking for her. “I was not in the market for another cat," Sarah recalled. "I had a cat at home. But I was holding this ridiculous-looking little kitten. Then I felt this little paw on my chin, and I looked down, and he looked up at me and then reached up and licked my nose. I thought, ‘Aw, cr*p.’”

The adoption fee was paid, and the adventure began. "As a kitten, he looked like a little alien. Just this weird big-eyed, flat-faced-looking alien," Sarah said. "I'm not entirely sure he's 100% cat, honestly. I think there might be some alien DNA floating around in there." He's a normal cat in behavior. Chaotic, loving, and precious. He just looks a little different. "He is an absolute little weirdo. He has zero f***s to give," Juracich said. "I have rolled over on him in bed and he just lays there and purrs. He is the most laid-back, chill cat I've ever known in my life. And he's also my little weirdo."

Nermal's story began not so amazingly, when he was rescued from a breeding and hoarding situation. But after a little while in a home where he's actually loved and cared for, he has blossomed into a creature that is quite meowjestic. "He's definitely been a very one-of-a-kind cat," Sarah said. "Sharing my life with him has been interesting."

Of course, he gets into the business of shenanigans just like any other cat, and cookies seem to be one of his ultimate weaknesses. "[One time], he managed to open a nightstand drawer and got out a box of lemon Girl Scout cookies. These are the ones with the powdered sugar coating on them," Sarah recalled. "Every very single cookie had had the powdered sugar licked off. No one cookie was left undisturbed."

At the end of the day, though, the shenanigans are part of what makes him so lovable. As well as the fact that he's a cuddlebug. "He is a very devoted cat," Juracich said. "He has to sleep right next to me every night, preferably half on my face or on my pillow." And nowadays, at fifteen years of age, he might be a little slower, but he's still just as unique-looking and just as mischievous. "Health-wise, he's been good. He's had no issues. He goes to the vet every year and everybody just loves him there." She adds, "I wouldn't trade Nermal for the whole world. He's irreplaceable."
